MUW nursing student Jennifer Neyman participated in summer externship

2011 Sep 15

Jennifer Neyman, a resident of Columbus, was among 23 nursing students who participated in an elective summer externship. Neyman's host hospital was Baptist Memorial Hospital.

The elective summer externship is a joint venture between the Mississippi Hospital Association and the the schools of nursing in Mississippi. To be eligible to to apply for the course, students have to successfully complete all of their junior nursing courses, be in good academic standing and be accepted by the participating hospitals based on faculty recommendations and a positive interview with the hospital. The goal is for students to apply all of their skills and knowledge acquired during their junior year to clients and their familes in an assigned clinical area.

The university's nursing department offers three degree programs: the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN), the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). All three programs have been continually accredited by state, regional and national accrediting bodies. The Associate of Science in Nursing Program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. The Baccalaureate Nursing Program and the Graduate Nursing Program are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, which is now the preferred national accrediting body for baccalaureate and higher degree nursing programs.
